Farmluxe Academy Retreats are immersive, education-forward experiences designed for women who want to deepen their knowledge and artistry in the garden.
Set in our Farmluxe Garden on San Juan Island, these retreats bring together renowned instructors and hands-on learning in garden design, floral artistry, and intentional growing. Each retreat is thoughtfully paired with nurturing wellness practices such as sound baths, gentle movement, and journaling, creating a balanced experience that feeds both creativity and well-being. It’s a space to learn, create, and restore alongside experts in an inspiring setting.
AN EDUCATIONAL GARDEN DESIGN RETREAT
Join us for an Educational Garden Design Retreat with Misha and expert flower farmer, Galena Berkompas from Micro Flower Farm.
The Farmluxe Method is a holistic approach to designing and growing organic home gardens that are both productive and deeply beautiful.
Rather than focusing only on food or flowers, the method designs gardens as immersive spaces for gathering, wellness, and everyday living. It emphasizes growing in harmony with the natural environment and designing for all five senses - sound, fragrance, touch, focal points, and taste.
Farmluxe gardens feature natural materials, raised planting beds, central gathering spaces, seating areas, and densely planted layers of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and native plants.
Hosted in the Farmluxe Garden on San Juan Island, with accommodations at Lakedale Resort, this workshop invites guests into a living example of the Farmluxe Method.
You’ll study the garden in real time and learn how layered gardens can be intentionally designed as places for connection, hospitality, and beauty. This workshop is designed for anyone who wants more from their garden than plant production - including home gardeners, creatives, designers, hosts, and those dreaming of using their garden for gatherings, workshops, or events.
A Farmluxe-style garden blends elements of a flower farm, cottage garden, kitchen garden, and country garden. It favors abundance and a natural, lived-in aesthetic over formal or manicured design.
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS
MISHA GILLINGHAM
Misha is a garden designer, flower farmer, and passionate grower known for creating organic, abundant gardens designed as spaces for gathering, wellness, and connection. She believes nature holds the answers, and designs gardens that invite people to slow down, reconnect, and feel nourished by the land. Her work blends masses of flowers and vegetables in layered, naturalistic plantings—moving away from traditional rows and toward a more regenerative, intuitive approach to growing. Her designs have been featured in publications including Country Living and Better Homes & Gardens, and her book Blooms & Dreams explores the beauty of intentional garden living. Misha teaches garden design workshops and shares her approach through her work and her farm on San Juan Island
GALENA BERKOMPAS
Galena is an expert farmer-florist and the owner of Micro Flower Farm in Southwest Washington. (@microflowerfarm on Instagram) She grows organically, with a focus on regenerative practices that care for the earth while cultivating beauty. In addition to her farm, Galena designs and maintains multiple cut-flower cottage gardens. She believes deeply that extraordinary beauty can be created in small spaces—that you don’t need acres of land to grow incredible flowers. Her work centers on helping others turn blank spaces into their own gardens, full of flowers where they can source their own garden-grown bouquets. At the heart of Galena’s work is a desire to help people reconnect with the physical world through gardening. In an increasingly fast-paced life, she sees cultivating beauty and nurturing growth as powerful ways to foster kindness, hope, and a deeper sense of connection.
